Spring Lake (Carp Specimen)

Well it’s that time of year again when the weather has finally settled and I start my 24hr fishing again. I decided on fishing the Pen -y- Ffrith coarse fisheries specimen pool for a 24hr session. Got to the lake quite handy Saturday morning and myself and my mate lee were the only two on the lake happy days. I set up on the far bank in one of the open water pegs with lee to my left in a bay. I started off with a steady approach with snowman hook baits on one rod with a small PVA bag of mixed pellets and on the other rod a single tutti fruity pop up.

It quickly become apparent the fish were cruising on the surface so I quickly set up a 4ft zig rig with a 10mm pineapple pop up and fed dog biscuits over the top which the carp were taking but not the most confident. I also set up my surface rod which consisted of 10lb mainline with a korda kruser controller down to 8lb drennan double strength size 10 korda widegape and a fake dog biscuit. It only took me 20 minutes to land my first carp of the session a mint looking 15lb mirror which fought like a demon.

A few hours later I bagged another off the top again a mint looking common of 12lb. By this time it was getting late so I sorted the main rods out for the night. All settled by 9pm fish stopped showing so weather looking absolutely spot on for the night time. It was a fruitless night but my right hand ripped off at 06.10 again another mint looking common of around 10lb. Once warmed up lee managed 3 fish off the surface on the above method biggest being a common of 12lb.

Session drawing to an end and I was a little gutted I had to leave as the fish were starting to feed on the surface again. This is a stunning little Venue which I really enjoy fishing the pegs are well constructed and more than big enough for a bivvy and all your gear. I will be visiting the venue again later in the summer to try bag a few more for the cameras.
